Guattari is best known for his intellectual collaborations with Gilles Deleuze, most notably Anti-Oedipus (1972) and A Thousand Plateaus (1980) in which they developed schizoanalysis. A remark must be made here about the critique of familialism, Oedipus, and (really existing) psychoanalysis that makes up the majority of Anti-Oedipus. In 1971, Deleuze and Guattari's collaborative work, "Anti-Oedipus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia" caused an international sensation by fusing Marx with a radically rewritten Freud to produce a new approach to critical thinking they provocatively called Indicative of this approach - an approach itself signalled in Buchanan's introductory essay - is Joe Hughes' chapter which returns the schizoanalysis of the volume's title to the philosopher's earlier works. It was in the aftermath of 1968 that Guattari met Gilles Deleuze at the University of Vincennes and began to lay the ground-work for the soon to be infamous Anti-Oedipus (1972), which Michel Foucault described as "an introduction to the non-fascist life" in his preface to the book.
